A pretty laughless affair.. . . There is no good reason to go and actually see it.. . To the extent it makes sense, it's a collection of time-honored cliches, and to the extent that it's original, "The Mechanic" is insane, bordering on gloriously insane.. Entertaining and heartwarming.. A sputtering remake in need of a more powerful recharge.. Anyone who has ever been stalked on the highway by a twirling red light and a siren should find satisfaction in this send-up of state trooper foibles.. . ...
